nobodyinparticular replied: "I haven't been there, but I used to work for FDA and inspected methadone clinics and have reviewed hundreds of patient files.
When I was doing this, most clinics had the policy of detoxing pregnant women, not only because it was good for the baby, but because the women, like you, were motivated. If you say this isn't the current thought, it just shows how old I am. I don't like the idea of you hiding it from them, because they are going to notice soon enough anyway, and they rely on your honesty, and they won't trust you in the future. I think I can understand why you don't want to tell them you are pregnant, though, if they will refuse to detox you.
I don't think you need to worry about CPS--depending on your state, of course. They won't take a child from a mother who is acting responsibly by seeking treatment and having regular urinalyses to show she isn't abusing drugs. Very few people could prove that, but you can.
Of all the pregnant meth patient charts I have reviewed, I saw very few miscarriages. The success rate for detox was four or five times higher than others in detox. And very few had any problems with their babies. I do recommend you tell the hospital staff when you have the baby that you detoxed from methadone x number of months ago, so they can do any checks they need to on the baby.
I wish you the very best of luck, and I admire your courage."
What drug other than methadone do they use to detox from heroin addiction and are they safe.? Looking for a more personal less addictive drug to help with a heroin addiction tried methadone for two years stayed clean for one year after methadone, and don't wont to go cold turkey cuz I have two small children to take care of. Not your average addict I haven't hit the hardcore junkie phase and dont want too. The reality is I'm a functional junkie if there is such a thing. I have contacted NA but that just going to help the mental part of the addiction now I need Help with the physical discomforts. Don't get me wrong I'm realistic to the pain thatI will go through just want to know more about the new drugs that are avalible and more short term.
Thank you for any advice Its nice to know people take time out their busy lives to support others in their time of crisis.
No matter what it will take I will ovewrcome this addiction because i know first and for most I'm worth it plus my husband and two beautiful boys are supporting me 100%.

I was an opiate addict for 5 years and methadone undoubtedly saved my life. If it were my life, which it isn't, I would stick with methadone if it works for you. Do a 2mg a week taper and you will feel no ill effects - I never did.
Most of all, make sure you have support from loved ones, it can mean the difference between maitenence and detox.
Good Luck"
Questions about Methadone for Oxycontin Addiction? A relative was taking Oxycontin for about a year (arount 160 mgs a day). He started a methadone program last week and is taking 25 mg a day. How long before the OC is out of his system? And how long should he take the Methadone before it's safe to detox from it? He was told it should be a short term treatment and is planning to only take it for a couple months. Any info on this, including the withfrawal from Methadone would be helpful!
